Oil Change Time!
Ok Well I hit 600 miles on my bike but i remember the dealer telling me that it would cost more then 100$$
To change the oil!!! I really want to do it myself. If anyone could help me out I need some direction on how
to start off i have a tool box that i never use and would like to begin using it to change the oil in my bike.
Website or just some kind of instructions would be good thanks!!!

RE: Oil Change Time!
Its going to cost you more than $100 because it is your first maintainence done for the bike. They change your oil and then they also go and check your valve clearances to make sure they havent shifted any from when it left the factory and through the first 600 miles on the bike and a few other things. My dad just had his done to his VTX1300 and it ran him $260.

They don't check your valve clearances on your first service unless your valves are operated with rocker arms. Unless you have a Suzuki GS 500 or a cruiser like a VTX or VT750 or an ATV, the first service is an oil/filter change, checking fasteners to make sure nothing's backing out, checking brake & clutch system, checking the chain slack & lubing the chain if you have a chain drive, tires, wheel bearings, steering bearings, and throttle operation. Changing oil is pretty simple. Get the engine to operating temp. and remove the drain bolt with a pan underneath to catch the oil. If you don't have an oil filter wrench, you can do it the redneck way and jab a large screwdriver through the filter and use it to twist the filter off (make sure the o-ring from the old filter isn't stuck to the engine case). Replace the filter, drain plug, wipe everything clean and fill 'er up!

ah..the first oil change....i helped my b/f change his oil the first time and everytime since on his 636....definately not a difficult process...i would say do it yourself if you can...and when it comes time for your first service at the dealer..if you already changed your oil it will save you money on the service..cause they cant charge you for it obviously..
one thing i will say..when you are putting the new oil in..pour it very slowly to avoid any air bubbles...i dunno how these bikes are but the kawi's if there is any air in there the oil light will come on...
other than that have fun!! oil changes of any kind are always a fun way to get all dirty ahahha

RE: Oil Change Time!
Just changed my oil about 30 minutes ago for the second time; and like everyone else is saying, it's easy. Just drain it, replace filter, fill it up, yada yada. I used Repsol RT4 or something like that, a honda filter, and a new crush ring. Altogether it was like 36ish bucks. Well under 100 and it's not hard to do yourself. Now as far as the 600 mile service check goes that's some different stuff. But the oil change part is easy.

yea the dealer is totally overcharging you for the work done, but as far as price, it's about as much as other dealers are charging.
first oil filter is put on by some crazy honda robot...be careful...it's on there really tight, you may have to use the good old screwdriver method to get it out.
