Use whichever one you want. Semi synthetic or full - it won't matter one bit.....

I actually have a question about this. I just put regular oil in my bike, a 1990 CBR600F, 10W-40. To my understanding the problem that people have with regular oil is that using it with a wet clutch system will cause the clutch to "slip" with some oils with a specific additive. I got oil without said additive but have not yet ridden it. Should I drain the oil and get motorcycle oil or does it not matter if the oil does not have the additive that makes the clutch system of a bike slip?

Thanks in advance,
Erik

If its car oil it probably has something in it thats not good for a motorcycle clutch. Unless it oil for dieasel engines then its probably fine.

Now now, this debate is as old as motorcycling itself yet it hasn't gotten anywhere closer to a solution, so it must be a topic of high importance!

If you're hell bent on using other than motorcycle oil, Shell Rotella T6, or in case it's not sold where you live like it is not here, Mobil Delvac. Both are heavy macinery diesel oils without the friction modifiers that **** up your clutch. My question is why not just use an oil that says motorcycle, they're not any more expensive and usually sit side by side on the parts shop shelf...

Someone once told me that there is a zinc additive in motorcycle oil which makes it motorcycle specific. I personally use synthetic motorcycle specific oil in my motorcycles. I also use synthetic oil in all my cars. Here is some literature on the subject, but ultimately it is up to you, sir.

long story short, look for this symbol on the back on the bottle of oil, whether it be motorcycle or automotive oil. if the bottom half of the circle has nothing in it, it is safe to use with a wet clutch. If it has Anything written in it then steer clear. Use whichever oil you want, most important thing is regular changes.

On the back of the bottle, there will be a list of standards that the oil meets. If it is approved for use in Japanese wet clutches, it will have JASO-MA listed. The new JASO standard has split the MA approval into MA1 and MA2, but since your bike is 2000 MY, any of them is fine.
