Can someone help diagnose my problem?

Problem: Bike won't start. I hear the spark plugs firing, but it wont "fire up." However, before I start my bike, after I turn the kill switch to run and turn the key to on, I usually hear a noise for about 3 seconds. I believe this is the fuel pump gearing up, but I could be mistaken. Then, I usually hit the ignition switch and the bike starts to run. Now, I don't hear that initial noise of the fuel pump or whatever it is before I try to start the bike. Does anybody have an idea of what could be wrong?

Background: I replaced my spark plugs a couple days ago. Then, started the bike up. It ran fine. The next day I replaced my oil (i've have done this 5 times now) and replaced my coolant (first time I did this). After replacing both fluids, I tried to start the bike so that I could refill the fluid levels, but it wouldn't start. Also, my front cowl was disconnected from the harness at first start try. I tried reconnecting it and starting again, but it made no difference.

my guess is to try to heat it up real well with a propane torch first. just shy of that i am not sure there is much you can do.

Agreed...sounds like great advice, but make sure you have bologna in your shoes first, otherwise you won't get enough syrup on the pancakes.

 

have you checked the fuses yet? The noise you hear is indeed the fuel pump priming itself.

 

Problem solved.

Turns out it was the "tip" sensor which tells the ECM wether the bike is on its side. This way the bike won't continue to run if the bike has recked. The sensor is located in the front cowl which i had taken off to change the coolant. When I pluged it back in, it was upside down. Finally, when I read a post about the sensor, I turned the cowl correctly up right and the bike started up like a charm.

FYI, next time...

We need to know what you're riding (apparently a FI bike)!

Second, if you ever have a problem with starting a FI bike again, FIRST THING TO DO (assuming nothing changed and you just did some work), unplug the battery! Let it sit for a few, then plug it in and try again. That will reset the tip over sensor (so does turning the bike off by the key... for the tip over sensor anyway) and anything else that the ECU may be tricked into thinking something is faulty.
