NC23 blew up - questions on repair
ok, made further progres over the last few days. got engine back together, re-cleaned carbs again cos they were out.
put engine back in, got exhaust on.
Had trouble getting carbs onto the boots on the new head as theyd gone a bit hard, so had to switch the over to the softer ones on the old damaged head.
Got carbs on, filled up with coolant and oil, and noticed a leak immediately, theres two little pipes, one on each side of the head for coolant, the left one was trickling out, but thats fine, it will just be an O-ring.
Airbox on, tank on, sprocket on, fitted new front axle (old one had a stripped spindle bolt)
then the ****ing thing wouldnt bump start (race bike, no starter etc)
then, as im about to put it back in the shed after failing to start it, it wont go into neutral, tried, and tried, and tried, no neutral.
After some panicking, and some swearing, I alised I had put the little arm on the spline upside down. So i turned that ack up the right way, and it fired up first go, and hummed away nicely. Idle hung a little bit, but I know theres some balancing and tuning to be done anyway, so no biggy.
But it at least runs again, yay!

last update on this thread I promise!.
SO finally got around to getting everything back together and running. got the carbs balanced. repaired a small water leak by replacing n O-ring.
apart from a hanging idle, it appears to run nicely.
I took it to Levels international raceway last weekend for a trackday along with my R1, and she went beautifully! absolutely sang all around the small twisty track. The only thing that gave me concern was that around session 3 i noticed a slight miss. I remembered I hadnt charged the battery at all yet, so I charged it after that session, and in the next session, she was a little rocketship again. I had a great day on it, except for the realisation that, even on the tight track I go to, it just lacks a bit of power (r1 daily ride).
So Today I bought an '04 600rr to replace it, and I have the 400 up for sale.
Ill try to attach a couple pics of it in action last weekend.
