my tach just died
Hello everyone. I am new to this forum, and was wondering if I could get some info. I have looked for the answer in other threads but could not find what I was looking for. I was riding the other day and got cought in a rain storm when my tach died. The needle went from 8000 rpm to 4000 back to 8000 then to 3000 then back to 8000 then it just quit. I thought that after the bike dried out for a day or to it would come back, but it did not. I have a 1994 CBR 900RR. Any help would be great. I have checked fuses, and the tach is the only thing that quit working. Thanks again

I'd have to look at a wiring diagram to see where it comes from. On the F3's the tach signal comes directly from the ICM. There are 2 connectors on the back of the gauge cluster that you might want to look at. The signal to the tach would be coming through there. Could also be corrosion on the contacts where the guage actually mounts to the gauge cluster.

Thanks for the info. I have checked for corrrosion on the leads coming out of the tach. both the input and the ground, but I did not solve my problem there. do you think that just the tach function of the ICM would go bad? I hate to tear into the whole wiring harness, due to the fact that it is still factory, but I can not find a bad connection. Any idea on how I can test the ICM?
