Must apply clutch to start while neutral

As some of you are aware, I can only start my bike in neutral if I apply the clutch. My neutral light doesn't come on in the display either.

Sounds like you either fried something in the ECU, or there is a neutral indicator switch in the transmission somewhere that is no longer functioning.

If you don't have a service manual for your bike - get it here: http://downloads.hondatech.info/Moto...e%20Manual.pdf

Edit - that's apparently not a Svc. Manual, but the owner's manual. Dig around this thread and see if you can find you one: https://cbrforum.com/forum/general-tech-stickies-106/please-post-manual-sites-here-46596/

as AJ said, it sounds like the neutral safety switch is not working, or out of adjustment.

Ok, so I gotta find the neutral safety switch. I read somewhere that it may have to do with the kick stand possibly since it won't start unless it's up and the clutch is applied.

The kickstand switch can cause you issues, but only if the bike is not in neutral, and if the bike is in gear, it doesn't matter if you pull in the clutch or not, if the kickstand is down, it will not start. The kickstand switch is overridded by the neutral saftey switch. And since your neutral light is not showing up(also nothing to do with the kickstandswitch), I'd say thats the issue.

I know this going to be a dumb question, but I gotta ask. Are you sure your just not making it to neutral? If your in, say 4th gear, and you kick it down, it will only kick down to 3rd and stop if your bike is not moving. You will think your in 1st since the gears are no longer going down, when you actually in 3rd.. Roll your bike a little and keep kicking it down to make sure.

First off thanks for your help squid (Navy perhaps). I did as you recommended being this is my first bike (3yrs now) and still the same issue. I wiggled the wires hoping maybe there was one loose. No Dice.
