Lowside - Bike won't shift properly, makes LOUD chattering noise
Hello,
Hope you guys might be able to help me out! I am not sure what to do.
It's a 2002 CBR F4i with with 24,000 KM
So what happened...low side crash at approximately 15km/h – damage to stator cover (left side of bike went down, scrubbing in brand new tires)
10-15 minutes later bike jumped out of gear while riding
Produced a loud constant chattering noise
can be easily heard over the sound of the exhaust
(felt like studdering in the gearbox)
stiff to change gears – needed to push gear selector with more effort than usual
Vibration was very noticeable on the clutch cover side, no vibration from stator cover
unrideable in lower gears, had to cruise in 4th gear or higher to get back home
1. pulling in clutch didn’t change the sound
2. sound is immediate the moment you start the bike
3. with the bike turned off and on a rear stand you can replicate the chatter by spinning the rear wheel backwards (in neutral)
4. if you push the wheel/bike forwards it locks up (in neutral)
5. removed stator cover, inspected for damage. no visible damage
6. removed clutch plate cover and removed clutch plates, pressure plate bolts and springs. no visible damage
7. drained oil. very small metal flecks found.
8. No visible damage (scratches, scufffs, or bent) to gear selector on left side of bike
Bike has a manual CCT in case anyone is wondering.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what it might be? If you need any more information let me know. Thanks!

Thanks for the prompt responses. I will double check the stator cover again but I am almost certain there were no parts unaccounted for.
I was in first gear when it went down (turning left from a stop sign). The rear wheel didn't hit anything. It slid out exactly in the middle of the road and landed completely on my leg. Literally no damage to the fairings, just the scrape on the stator cover and mirror.
If it is the gearbox, what should be my next step? More cost efficient to replace the gearbox or tear it all apart and do a rebuild?
