Bring the title and your bike to your local locksmith, they should be able to help.

You can replace the assembly, as your dealer suggested, but then you have to carry 2 keys. I got a full set (gas cap/ignition/helmet lock) on e-bay for $125 shipped. Took a while to find, though. You can probably order a new key and go to a locksmith, mine said he could do all of them to match. Plus, he made me a couple of spares. ;-)

You could pay to have the locksmith come to you but that's just as expensive. You can remove the ignition and take it to the locksmith. I'd think removing the gas cap and taking that to a locksmith should yield a working key but not sure.

What year F4i is it. My 06 has a code I can take to the dealer and get them to provide a new key.

Is there a resistor in the F4i ignition key as part of the HISS system, or is the key just completing the circuit to enable the bike to start?

Either way - yeah locksmith might be able to help you. I bought a F3 passenger rearset w/ helmet lock for my F2 and had it rekeyed to work with my normal ignition key.

Any locksmith worth his salt can make that key, whether you take your bike to him or he comes to you.

HISS wasn't standard equipment on US F4is.

if you take off the run switch on the right handle bar, as long as it is the stock one original one from factory, alot of bike makers put the key code under them or labeled inside the houseing not sure on the f4i but i know thats where it is on my 08 1000rr if i lost the keys. just have to take that set of numbers to a locksmith and have em make ya a new key.
