loss of drive help ?
Hi guys I ride a 05 cbr 1000rr and have just joined this site ! I was riding a long trip today on highway 100km into my trip I was going through some trafffic and all of a sudden I lost drive (like my chain broke ) I was certain it was so kept clutch in and rolled to stop ! I then checked that my chain was still perfect so I clicked down into first and let clutch out to find the bike pulled off as usual . I went through all the gears and no problem . 400km later I'm back home with no problem again . What could this have been ? Bike has done 17 000 km . I didn't hit neutral as the green light didn't come on . B4 the ride I moved gear lever up a few teeth so I could get my new boots under for up change . Any help would be much appreciated .

Sounds like you hit a false neutral. It can happen from misaligned shift linkages, lazy shifting or worn out transmission parts. Its an odd thing to happen, but it usually happens between 5th and 6th, but can happen in other gears as well.
I would assume since you just adjusted your lever, your not getting the correct amount of force to shift it, it was just a coincendence. If it happens again, I would definately put the lever back. Its highly likely that when you adjusted it, you took away some of the mechanical advantage and creating less force from your foot, so even if your shifting firm, it may not be transfering.
having said this, I've never had it happen to me, but it has happened to a few friends. They've all said it was due to their own lazy shifitng.
How large are your boots? Most motorcycle boots arent any larger than a shoe in the toe area. Are they work type boots? Its also possible, if your boots are large, you could have had pressure on the shifter and put just enough to pop it between gears. If your boots are really too large, I'd look into other boots.

Thanks so much for that reply , yeah u right between 5th and 6th , I have thor 50 /50 boots . I know I adjusted it a bit higher than I actually need to get boot under lever , ill adjust it back to normal and then up 1 or 2 teeth , I also battled to get it into 3rd from 2nd at high revs so I reckon u spot on !
