My license plate stays in my trunk, so i gues theres no need for a plate light. Yes Louisiana Law says u must have a plate light and plate must be visable from either side of the bike....But the hell with it, if the officer wants to see it, i'll show it to him....Sorry officer it fell off a few miles back, and i dont have any screws or tiewraps to put it back on right now!!!!...=-)

NC law says you need a light too. I haven't had one on my bike since the second week I bought it, that was early 2005. The guy that inspected it last year finally said somethin about it. I have been pulled over several times , once even for improper placement of my plate and they still never mentioned the light. I guess I will finally break down and go buy a light before time to get inspected next year.

I use a plate frame with LED illumination.
Having come from running without a plate light, and not liking how the one that came with the eliminator kit lit up the entire underside of the bike, I have to say I really like the way it lights up the plate area only. It's a nice white light too, makes for a great alternative to even the stock setup as you can get rid of the huge light bulb assembly forever.

I just order some plate bolts with LEDs in them. Works great and is fairly inobstrusive.

I havent taken anything non racy off my RR, so it still has the stock, original, 3 billion pound piece of plastic, and spotlight on.
On my F2, I just use the running light LED/Brake and signal light, in those rare occasions of night riding. Gives it a nice red glow
The reflectiveness of a car's headlights is enough for people coming up from behind.
Have had many cops behind me many times over the past 9 months since I had the LED put on, with no official license light on,
and not once have I been pulled over for it.
But, just to avoid the hassle of a fix it ticket, the little built in bolt/led idea sounds good.
I'll have to find me some of those, meaning where they sell them, for when I commute.
