LED Headlights
I recently read an article on the new BMW R1200 GS and one of the updates for 2013 was a LED headlight. So I'm thinking that with technology soon to follow, someone will be offering LED replacement bulbs for H4, H7.... I realize that like xenon replacements, the lens design of our older lights might not be ideal, but could this be another bulb option for us? The extended lifespan is attractive.
I think it would definitely be another option as long as the housing/reflector designs for the standard bulbs are compatible with the LED bulb design. I don't know whether or not there is a difference between the two. The extended lifespan is a bonus in addition to less power consumption, and I would assume less heat as well.
Did a little more research and it looks that at the least, it will be a while longer before LED technology is usable for us. Ran across an interesting discussion on candlepowerforums entitled "Replacing H7 Bulbs with LEDs". Bottom line is that our conventional options are still the best.
Cool vid, thanks for posting. The HD lights appear to have a very interesting design using a three bulb system, what looks like a projector style main and two side mounted bulbs/reflectors for peripheral light. Hopefully sooner or later someone will come up with a usable H7 replacement.
