Illuminated Engine Light

I have a 2011 CBR600RR its been parked up for approx 10 months and never started. Over the weekend I tried to get the bike up and running. When I tried to start the bike the battery was completely dead. I fitted a new battery and the bike fired up fine but I noticed that the engine light was on. I left it ticking over for 10 minutes or so and still the light was still illuminated.
I then rode the bike for about 15 minutes and just took it easy around the side streets. It behaves fine I cant feel any issues with the bike but the engine light never goes off.
Does any one have any idea why the engine light would be illuminated?

Thank you.

Hi Daz

Do you mean the red light that looks like a oil can? That means you have low oil pressure. It may be the sensor is on the blink but I would do an oil change before you ride any further. An engine can run with low oil, but you'll be causing a huge amount of excess wear & it will not last long. That will end with you parked by the roadside with a dead engine...

If it's the red one that looks like a transmission, it's the fuel injection warning. This is usually indicates an electronic fault and might have cleared itself since you turned the bike off. Easiest thing to do if not is disconnect the battery completely for a minute, then reconnect it; this *should* force a hard reset of the ECU, hopefully clearing the fault. Basically, turn it off, then turn it back on again.

If the FI warning is still on after that, then there's a persistent electronic error.

Hope that points you in the right direction.

Thank you Deaks,

It is the Yellow engine warning light that's on and not the red oil light. I will try disconnecting and re connecting the battery to see if it clears.

Thanks for your advise.

Before you clear it, jump the diagnostic connector and read the code. Make note of it for future use when it comes back on.
