ignition hacked out
Hey all Ive been browsing the forums for a few weeks so i figured id register cause I need a little help with a problem on my 99 cbr600f4. Im new to motorcycles and I just bought the bike as a starter bike to learn on, the bike was stolen from the previous owner and recovered by the police and whoever stole it broke up the ignition and now you have to start it with a screwdriver! So carrying around a screwdriver with me to start it every time was getting kind of old and i figured id just hook up a toggle switch as a temporary fix until i could find a new ignition switch somewhere. Well I hooked up and tested all the wires to the ignition switch then hooked up everything to the toggle switch exactly how it was hooked up to the regular ignition switch and now the bike wont run. When i flip the toggle switch everything comes on just like normal and the starter will turn it over but it just wont fire up. Ive checked and re checked all the wires to the switch and theyre all getting current. What could this be? Is there something special in the original ignition switch to let the bike run? Does anyone know where I could find a whole ignition assembly with a key? Ive been checking ebay but they rarely have a igniton for the f4, what other models/years will fit the f4? ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: ignition hacked out
Here is what the switch chart says
____________________
--------| R| R/Bl | Bu/O |
----------------------------
On | O-|-O---|---O |
----------------------------
Off | | | |
----------------------------
Lock | | | |
----------------------------
Remove the upper fairing disconnect the ignition switch 3p connector
Check for continuity between the terminals
Continuity should exist between the color coded wire as shown in chart
Hope this helps

RE: ignition hacked out
yeah im now sure everything was hooked up correctly to the toggle switch and it still didnt work so I temporarily rigged up the original switch and it fired right up first try....weird. MY only guess is that there is some sort of special circuitry in the original ignition switch that only allows the bike to run with that original switch, if anyone knows about these switches or can confirm that there is indeed something in the switch that only allows the bike to run with that switch please speak up.
