Idle noise
has anyone ever heard of a tick at idle?? It does it on my bike when it starts to get nice and warm. The idle is fairly consistent with small variations like most other bikes but there is a monotone tick (it is audible). I can here it when i'm sitting on top with my helmet on and as soon as you rev or start going it will go away. I don't know what is causing this... maybe cylinders need adjusting.. or cct... i don't know too much about bikes so any help would be great
I'm not riding right now cuz i broke my ankle so it won't be getting any worse... i just want to know what that damn tick is. thnks

You have an F4, well i have heard of CCT's going bad on those. But if it is a slight tick at start up i wouldn't really worry about it. When the engine is cold the clearance between valves and cams are at their greatest and you'll hear more noise from there, also the oil has drained form the cylinder head to the crankcase and when you start it up, there is hardly anything there to dampen the sound. So those are the two most common reason why you hear noise while starting. The CCT should be making noise regardless of thing it cold or hot, and when your valves need adjusting that noise will be a little louder and probably still noticeable while warm. But just because you don't hear valve noise doesn't mean you don't need to adjust it. You got two ways valves can go, they can get loss and get noisy, or they can get tight and you won't be able to tell unless you get in there and inspect
Mauthman, did you find a solution or explaination to your issue. My 95' 900RR is making the same noise; a tick here and there at idle that kind of fallows the ups and down of the lopey idle. I am not really worried about it but I was just curious as to whether you did anything to your ride to fix yours. I think that its just a little bit of tappet chatter and I'm inclined to just ignore it because i can never here it above idle. My bike only has 13,500 on the clock so I doubt that the CCT is a factor yet. Let me know when you can. Thanks in advance.
it is the CCT..most likely. He got a long post because he avoided using words that is in the SQL servers language such as "l ike" space added. the forum will be back workin in no time tho
