Default Help with camshafts timing!!

ok so I have a 92 honda cbr 600 f2 and I had to replace the head and im having problems. My pulse generator has no timing marks. So if I don't have timing marks how do I set the timing when putting in the camshafts? I assume that i need to put the motor at tdc and then put the shafts in as described in the manual? And to put the motor at tdc how many rotations do I have to turn the motor? Ive heard it needs to be on a compression rotation or something? I thought I had it at tdc and after installing the cams I started up the bike and she fired right up but after running for a while it stopped. I took the carbs off and looked in the intake and I broke a valve on the #3 cylinder. Did I not have it at tdc and a piston broke it or just a bad valve?? Im putting in new valves and I need help
