+1 on what pacemaker said. To elaborate a bit, if it has rivets on the ends, the rivets can be drilled out, the exhaust can be disassembled and re-packed, and then put back together and rivet the end caps back on.
Factory exhausts are usually welded and sealed and have to be cut open. It's just easier to replace those. You can find some exhausts for a decent price on e-bay and even some aftermarket sites. A little more info about what you already have will help as well.
