I was cruising home on my 2001 F4 and the majority of my gauges went black. Tachometer, Speedometer, Neutral Light, Warning Light, and Gas Guage went dark. In addition to this my tail light is dark, but my brake like works fine.

Headlight, bright, turn signals, as well as bright light indicator and turn indicators still work fine. Also the clock on the gauges stays on. I looked up the wiring set-up thinking it may be a blown fuse but the fuses are shared in a way that each fuse powers something that is both working and not working.

Am I just dealing with a semi dead gauge cluster? Is it possible that so many wires would have become loose instantly? Frustrating.

 

check the connectors around cluster and under the tanks. did the bike get wet

 

I washed it the morning of when this happened, but that was probably 12 hours earlier and plenty of air and heat to the bike in the mean time

 

yep, sounds like a weak connection or maybe a bit of water created a deposit on something. clean and reconnect is my advice.

 

So this is painfully embarrassing. The clymer guide showed 4 fuses but there are 7 on the bike. Im not sure how the 7 are wired because its obviously not the same as the guide, but it was a fuse after all. thanks to everyone for their help!
