Gas cap issue
Hello fellow CBR people.
I have a 1988 CBR 600 F project bike I'm piecing together. The key for the gas cap will turn semi-freely, it has a little spring to it but it will just rotate over and over without releasing the cap. I can't find anything in the manual, and all tech info I am finding online is fairly unrelated, but suggests I will have to drill out my gas cap and buy a new one. Does anybody have something to try as an alternative? |
I am a little confused on what you mean. Like it will not lock itself when you press down on it? or you can unlock it freely?

It is "latched" on the tank. The key slides in, rotates freely and slides right back out again.
That is until a couple hours ago, I pried it off and there are 2 pins inside on the end of the key tumbler that pull together the catches when you turn the key. They were broken off so the lock cylender wasn't attached to the latches. I also cleaned out the tank including pulling about about 4 feet of dry-rotted electrical tape. WOW Now I'm on to find the appropriate measure for restoring the interior of a tank. I also fired it up again (on starting fluid) and gave it a rev for the first time. Now I'm not going to say it's evil. Buuuut, from the sound of it, I wouldn't be surprised if it put on an evil clown mask, snuck up behind you, and wispered one of your deepest secrets into your ear. |
By rotate freely you mean the key goes 360 degrees when it is inside of the lock? :X thats crappy and sounds like a new lock for that tank.

I replied but apparently it didn't stick.
It's torn apart and fixed, I'll post method/solution with pics in a project thread when I can post pictures. |
