what grade should i use in my 96 F3? the guy at the shop i bought it from said to use 91 or 93 octane! is this wrong?

my bike is 12:1. i have found better gas mileage with 87 to 89..and 93 or 94. with no proformation issues.. it actually felt strongest at 89.
