fuel consumption

Individual bikes are going to vary, just based on engine condition, etc. If you're going to being doing something liek touring France where you may be going long distances between fill stations, you may want to just go out one day and do the math to figure out what your personal bike's fuel milage is, so you don't risk being stranded a few annoying km away from the next stop.
Fill up your tank, and write down your odometer reading. Ride the bike as you would if you were touring (highway speeds, few stops). Next time you fill up, write down how much fuel you put in, and divide how many miles you drove by that. Multiply this by how big your tank is, and you will know how far your personal bike can go before it will need to refuel.
