F3 Stator is bad, looking for a replacement...
My stator is down a leg, gonna have to replace it.
OEM is out of the question, $400+...REALLY!? I've turned up 2 after-markets, Rick's and Electrosport. Anyone have any experience/comments about either/or? Thanks, Ern |
Sorry I have no input for ya.
But that stinks your stator is dead, I know its a shot in the dark if their any good or not but have you looked on ebay for a stock one. If the price is low enough it may be worth the risk. |
It's not dead but it sure as heck ain't charging right.
plus it's blown one of the top-end diodes on my new r/r. Don't want a used one, I'm hoping to get higher output, as well. The after-market are supposed to give a 20%-ish boost from better, more modern windings. grrr, Ern |
Well, unless anyone wants to give me re-assurance, I went ahead and ordered
the Electrosport, Stator and a new r/r for my beastie. So this thread is effectively dead, unless I do an after-action report. Thanks anyway, Ern |
Meh, bit late, but the Rick's stators hold up fairly well. I don't think you should worry too much because it's aftermarket.

The Electrex site is the original UK site to Electrosport. I think they are still affilliated.
Spent the afternoon, following my own advice. Went through the entire harness, cleaning and grease-packing all of the connectors. Pulled a couple of marginal patches and re-soldered and heat-shrinked them. Generally, spiffed up the whole thing, from nose to tail. It was actually, in suprisingly, good shape. So now, I just have to wait for the new stator and r/r to arrive and I should be solid, when that's taken care of. Thanks for the assist, Ern |
Here's the post-report, if anyone is curious.
It was the stator and r/r, took about 2 1/2 hours, total. An hour of that was razor-blading the old gasket off and buffing the seats. Yes, I actually remembered the new gasket in advance. Fortunatly, I had about 2 grand on the oil, so it wasn't a total waste there, either. Although, I'm more of a 'once a year' or 5000 miler for oil/filter changes normally. Took her out for a 25 mile juant, unfortunatly it was 43 degrees out, so I couldn't really push the gerbing jacket/gloves hard. More than about 25% on the thermostat and it got too hot. However, briefly I ran it on high and was still getting a solid 13+ volts @ 3000 RPM. So I'm good, even in slow traffic, as far as sufficent out-put. As a side note, for those interested in monitoring voltage. I found a company called Koso that makes a really cool digital read-out. They had different colors available, I went with a blue led. The knob and red led, mounted on the left, is the thermostat for the heated riding gear. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...65070024_n.jpg Rear-ward of the battery, under the seat I added an accessery relay https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...32278828_n.jpg Sad part is, a lot of time and money later...no bling, my sig still stands, she's a 20 (some say 25, I saw that comment on my exhaust in the F3 pic thread) footer. Congrats on getting her running again man.
Also on a side note, KOSO RULES! I love my gauges I have from them. I have the GP gauges with no speedo. The RX2-NR, I gave up on my speedo heeler helping with the constant tire and gearing changes and just got rid of the speedo all together. |
