F3 flat spot at 5-6K

Morning all. I have a problem developing with my 96 F3. Basically it has a real flat spot between 5-6k. Chugs like crazy and feels like it wants to go backwards. It’s in the hands on my local mechanic at the moment and although he hasn’t fully explored the issue yet, he’s throwing around some pretty astonmical £ potentials. I’m no mechanic myself but I’m keen to see what I can do myself before laying out serious poundage. If anyone can point me in a few directions as to what I can look at I’d be very appreciative. Thanks all.

Hi could you tell us a bit more, have you changed filter , spark plugs ,any work done on the carbs jet sizes, are you running the DIA system or has it been modified, and will it rev through the 5-6rpm band ok in neutral, sorry a few things there but at least we can get a picture, only take mine to the Garage for MOT :)

It's your jetting. Carbs may need cleaned or you may need a different slow jet. Also gotta remember at that rpm you're never gonna have much, well below the power band.

What is your throttle position when you have issues?
Don't focus on RPM. Focus on if you are at idle, 1/4th, 1/2, 3/4 or WOT. Knowing that is when you can start troubleshooting on where in the carb it is.
