Differences in 900rr years?
Is there any kind of listing of the differences between parts on different year 900RR's. I think I've figured out that I have a '95 and need some parts. I want to broaden the years of bikes I can take from if possible. I am very new to these so any help is hugely appreciated.
all years 900rr can fit the same bodywork. when it comes to engine work, in 96 the 900rr started to have a different engine size(919cc) and everything before that was 893cc i believe, so the engine might have different part's if your trying to find a specific year. 98-99 brake rotor's dont fit on 93-97 wheels(comes from experience). that's all i can think of right now but if you throw out some questions i'm sure i could help out
I figured out that I have a '95 900RR and I need to come up with lots of small parts to try and get it running. Forward, upper and lower engine mount bolts, cam chain cover bolts (lower right side of engine), throttle assembly and cable(s), exhaust header, carb rebuild kits (or at least take apart and clean), install the radiator, battery. I need to get a manual to figure out how and where this all goes and hook up the wiring too. What's the best manual? Clymer, Haynes, etc. Basically, I want to see if it's worth rebuilding the bike. I got it free after "something" was fixed on the engine after being laid down on the right side and it sat for 2-3 years. If I can get it to start, I'll build it.
engine mount bolts im for sure are all universal for the 900rr from 93-99. The frame itself went no major changes untill 900rr production stopped and 929 production began in 2000. cam chain cover bolt's im sure are the same as well. always bro, heres a tip, if your unsure about using a different year product than that of a 95( for example), head up to any local honda dealer to ask them to look up a part #. if the part # on the 95 is the same part number as the part you've got already(or the part your ordering off ebay and is unsure of if it'll fit your year 900rr.
so for example, say your going to buy a fuel petcock off ebay that was off a 99, and you have a 95 and you just want to double check if it will fit. head to the dealer to look up part #'s and spec's.always works like a charm for me.
as for the header, if you have a 893 engine(i think it's year 95 and lower) than you can pick up any headers from 93-95 because the header positioning was in the same spot. if you have a 919 motor than you MIGHT need to find a header from 96-99.
if you want a manual, Haynes is the way to go i've heard. This bike is relatively cheap to rebuild and is easy once you understand the mechanics behind it, hell if you dont want it i'll take it off ur hands
