damage to bike in winter?
 

i just got my cbr125r last week and I'm trying to teach myself how to ride in the parking lot next door as much as i can before i go for the m2 course in april, however it is currently -3 or -6 Celsius on these days when i take it out, there is no snow on the ground yet so that's why I'm trying to get as much time in as a i can now before it fly's however, my stepfather said with me starting and stopping the bike so often in the cold I'm going to scorch the piston walls, at these temps should i really be concerned about this. or is he just using this as an excuse so i won't try to get my bike by his Harley.

Bottom line is you really dont want to run any engine for short spurts. If it never truly gets up to operating temp it 'can' create a host of problems over time due to poor lubrication, fuel/carb issues, to condensation causing interior corrosion and oxidation.

So IMO , if you can't get a nice full high temp run on it , I wouldnt be running it.

Outside of that, once the engine reaches full op temp , it doesnt really matter what the outside temp is. I grew up dirtbiking in snow most of my youth.

I rode my bike today. it was like 50 degrees. best thing to do is to start it and let it warm up to about 120-130 or so then take off on it. after that you should be good.

Yeah, just make sure you ride it for 20 minutes or longer at a time and you should be fine. Just remember the tires will not have as much grip at these lower temps, so you'll have to take it a little easy.

One other thing: fairings get brittle in cold

Its not unheard of for them to shatter in deep cold
