Common failure mods
Just got '87 hurricane 1000. Wondering if there are any common problems/ remedies to prevent failures. Such as, on Interceptors, they say replace reg./ recticfier with Yamaha unit. On Ducatis, replace clutch slave cylinder with aftermarket unit. Etc. Only thing I saw on these is cct., Which has been done. Any other common issues? Thanks.

I'd say if it ain't broke, don't fix it
The R/R is a known weakness, and the aircut valves on the carbs can also cause problems, but are easy to delete. The other most common issues are clogged pilot jets (any bike that's been sitting, not just this model) and I know aftermarket lights/instruments are a common headache if the wiring's been modified.
Aside from that, some parts are becoming scarce, so if she needs work, you probably want to keep an eye on replacements. OEM gasket kits are running low (but the aftermarket is still well-served), as are carb kits/screws, along with any of the major components and bodywork
Hope that helps
