cold start
I have a CBR 900RR 1999. I have it in my garage but it has been very cold and I can not seem to get her started. Battery is charged but it keeps back firing on me and just will not start up. I did add more gas because it was pretty low and still back fire!!!!! anybody have any suggestions?? Please help

Well my first port of call would be to take the spark plugs out and make sure they're healthy looking and spark when you try start the bike. If theres a spark and it doesnt appear the engines flooded/fouled plugs. Id pour in a tiny amount of 'gas' into the cylinders and shove the spark plugs back in and try again. If it fires up then dies I dare say its a fueling or air problem. Its usually never the air side but It wouldnt hurt to check incase somethings crawled into your bike and has claimed your airbox as its new home. Ive no idea about injection engines so this is where I stop lol.
Im talking from back in my ghetto offroading days when we couldnt get a bike to start. |
thanks for the help. I will get new plugs and see what happens. Thanks again

You might not need new plugs. The only reason I want you to take the old ones out is to see that theres a spark. You have to remember that ignition wont happen without fuel+air+spark. If you take away one the engine wont start.

forgive me if this is a dumb question.. but you are using the choke, right?
Also, you should feel resistance at teh lever unless the cable has snapped or something.. good luck Adam |
The bike is lean, did you replace the exhaust and not jet the bike? I have had this problem in the past
|
yes, i have had no problems until now. I believe I flooded it the last time I tried to start it.... so I may have fouled the plugs????

A wise man once told me:If the battery is good, and it cranks but won't start, then start at the plugs and work your way in. Remember the FACS: Fuel+Air+Compression+Spark=Happy!
