I've never personally used it, but Motul's Chain Clean brand chain cleaner and degreaser gets a lot of praise. I have been using Honda's Brake and Contact cleaner for a while now and it works okay. i also use Honda's Chain lubricant with white graphite to lubricate and protect the chain.

otherwise you can use automotive diesel fuel for a cleaning agent.

I use one of them citrus degreasers, and it works well. I still use a toothbrush to get all thegrit out.

I recently changed from Honda lube to Chainwax, and I feel like it pick up a little less dust than the Honda stuff did, but perhaps its just less crud on the roads (?)

Whatever you use, it works in better when the chain is warm after a 5 minute ride.

I use Kerosene with a soft toothbrush, you have to be careful not damage the 'O' rings, wipe it down with a rag, let it dry. I then use Chain Wax, although interstingly a friend used go for the waterproof grease that they use on boats. He said there was never a problem with fling off, but I kind of doubt it.

I would caution you against using things that can damage rubber (seals, O-Rings) on your chain.
