Cecking oil levels
Hi, please forgive my ignorance on such a simple task! I have just bought my 1st bike a CBR600 F 1998 and do not have an owners manual. I want to check the engine oil level but am unsure if the bike needs to be on its side stand or upright? It does not have a centre stand. It also does not have a window to check the level just a dipstick. Also does the bike need to be hot or cold to check the oil.
Thanks for your help Steve |
RE: Cecking oil levels
I always check mine when its upright and when its cold. But then i have a 06 600rr so I dont know if it would be any different but my guess not. When ever you go to buy oil check with your local bike shop and they can for sure let you know.

RE: Cecking oil levels
Start the engine and let idle for 2-3 minutes. Turn off the engine and support the motorcycle on a level surface. Check the oil level through the inspection window. |
Oil Level CBR 600F
Check Oil while motorcycle is on main stand or make sure bike is level or you will get a false reading, unscrew engine oil dipstick wipe then replace dipstick into filler hole BUT DO NOT SCREW IT IN the correct level is the first line on the dipstick add or drainoil until correct level is gained.re tighten oil dipstick.P.S I think the guy who said he does it with engine idleing is haveing a laugh unless you want oil everywhere:cool:

'main stand'?
So when you say the main stand, you mean a center stand right? And since his bike (and mine), do not have them, we either need to get someone to hold the bike level or get a stand for it, then check with the dipstick without screwing it all the way in, correct?
Thanks!! |
