cbr600f2 1995 lumpy idle and acceleration

Hi folks, recently my bike started a little lumpy. The tank had been run almost empty but not empty. It seems to start on the button with a bit of choke but then idles lumpy. It fluctuates between 1k and 1.5k just kind of bobbing.

Is it sensible to check plugs first, to check the state of the setup? Also, is it ok to ride whilst I work it out? It's going to take me a while to lean.
Thanks.

Check the spark at the plugs. Are all cylinders receiving a strong spark and all running? If they're OK sounds like it could be clogged idle jet(s) needing cleaning. I had a similar problem on my CBR1000F and it killed one cylinder completely until I cleaned the idle jets. I assume it runs OK once you get some revs on.

Not that it matters much to your problem (it doesn't, more than likely), but if the bike is a '95, it's an F3.
