CBR Driveline Freeplay

I'm troubleshooting what I think may be a problem with my tranny, or something else has changed on my 2004 CBR1000RR. There seems to be freeplay in the drive train .... I feel it as I shift, and don't seem to recall this same freeplay previously.

To test, I put the bike in 1st gear (engine OFF), and rocked the CBR back and forth between "stops". She moves about 3 inches.

The chain is properly adjusted, I've bled the clutch. Bike has about 10,000 miles, original clutch.

Is this normal, is it my imagination, or am I on to something? I've posted this question in the past under the 1000 forum, thought that I'd solicit other opinions here.

Thanks in advance for any advice!!

3 inches sounds normal to me.

Thanks for the feedback. I lifted the rear wheel and checked all 6 gears ... all the same freeplay, so whatever it might be is in the primary drive.

Not acting weird, but I've noticed the freeplay, and the clutch engages at a slightly different lever position than before.

Feedback is starting to convince me that it might be my imagination. Could also be my riding style and how I shift ....???

Thanks much again!!!

i do the same thing when i notice something i didnt before . and then that seems to be all i can think of when im riding. i wouldnt worry to much. but also if it bothers you that much try and flag down someone else with the same bike and see if theres does the same thing before you spend money at the shop cause we all know they will find some thing for you to spend your money on

your cush drive bushings will eventually get soft in the rear wheel, other than that you don't really have anything to worry about when it comes to end play in the tranny
