CBR 954 RR cutting out

Hi All,

I have a 2002 CBR 954rr that's done 22,000 miles and has recently started to cut out at low revs.

When the bike is at idle there is a loud ticking noise coming from the top left of the engine around cylinder 1 sounds like it could be the valves or the manifold.

all I want to know is if anyone on here has had a similar issue and what was done to rectify it.

Cheers
Gary

It's hard to say. "Ticking" might be the least descriptive word used on the forum simply due to how often it's used.

These valves tend to tighten up (and thus not tick) with usage due to carbon build up.

A video is usually the most helpful in this situation. Can you post one?

Have you run fault codes yet?

Is a spark plug backing out?

I'll post a video later on when I'm back with the bike. Without trying to sound too much like a novice how do you run error codes on this bike? Are they something that would just show up as they occur? Thanks for the replies guys

Cant post video something went pop

Can't post a Video anymore as I went to start it and as soon as it tried to fire something shot out the exhaust.

It sounded like the debris came from the top left of the engine where the noise (knocking) was coming from.

Thanks for your help but I think this is beyond my ability now haha.

Cheers
Gary

Never say die matey, have a closer look at the engine it might not be as bad as you think, get a ratchet on the crank and turn it (in neutral) to see if the pistons are fouling any moving parts, take out the spark plugs to help lessen the compression:icon_wink:

I'll try that later on and let you know CaBaRet, Thanks everyone for you help I'll let you all know when its back on the road again :)

Wonder if the noise was the stock CCT, and the motor barfed when it got loose enough to jump a tooth (or two) on the cam(s)?
