CBR 929 Runs then dies after 10 minutes
#11
I unblocked the vent tube on the bottom of the tank and ran a hose down from it. I've run it twice in the driveway one for 20 minutes and the last for 30 minutes with absolutely no problems. If I ride it and it dies then it must be something that occurs with heat and vibration. If the ecu is failing would it have shown itself after 30 minutes at idle or is it prone to failure due to vibration too? I'm asking specifically about the ecu, not the wire or connectors on it. If they're loose that's ok, I'll find it but if the ecu is bad then that's a lot more money.

Took it out tonight around the neighborhood for 20 minutes with no problems. Before it wouldn't go over 15 minutes. Tried everything, idling at stop signs for a little extra time, cruising in a higher gear to put more load on the motor to see if that would do it. Take off from a stop with just enough gas and clutch to get moving, taking off at 3000 rpm, giving it short bursts to get up to speed a little quicker than normal. Riding over bumpy parts of the road, never went over 30mph so the temp got up to 200 but came down as I rode. Other than longer test rides it seems like I've put it through every normal scenario I can think of and besides running on wet roads at low speeds at night with a light mist in the air it appears to be doing better. Maybe one of the connections wasn't good and I accidentally fixed it. Will try again tomorrow for 30 minutes and see what happens. Thanks again for all your replies and info.

I don't know if that's what fixed mine but its definitely a problem. I think my problem was a combination of bad relay, blocked tank vent and loose connection somewhere. I would say if under most conditions your bike wont run for more than 10 or 15 minutes that the vent being blocked is something to correct before looking elsewhere. If that's not it then check the fuel cut relay and the engine stop relays as they are prone to failure after years of heat and vibration.

You would be better off starting a new thread. This one is pretty old. A new one will get you more replies.
