CBR 600 F1 started it for the first time Running to Hot
Hello everyone...So, to start out i am new to the CBR seen. I have a Harley and was raised on them all my life. I just came into position of a 1987 CBR 600 Caine. It is pretty cool, and I have been putting in a lot of hours the last two weeks trying to get it drivable. I finally got carbs all put back together and on, fired it up for the first time, it ran great all considered. It spit out white smoke for about 10 min but then cleared up. This was the first time I have had it running so I took it easy (sorta) everything was in working order, all gears shifted smoothly, carbs ran well (I haven’t got around to syncing them yet but will do so soon.
The BIG problem right now is, after driving it around for about 15 min I noticed it got extremely hot and coolant was boiling out of overflow, (fan was also not running but will check to make sure the fan has power and see if the switch in radiator is bad). I parked it and checked the oil (which was the first thing I did when I got it was new oil and filter) the manual said 3.5 quarts when I changed it, after checking the oil I was about 1.5 quarts low…could this be the problem? Or is it something else… thanks for your help in advance.
600 Caine or Cane?
A non-functioning fan could certainly lead to overheating. If it is getting hot enough to boil coolant out the overflow tube and the fan still isn't turning on then there's a problem with the fan circuit. Maybe just a blown fuse. Spin the fan by hand to see if it is bound up.
On the oil, I guess you know to check it with the bike level and not on the side stand, center stand or a rear stand, right? Also, wait at least 10 minutes after riding to check the oil level so that it all drains down. Did you check it before your 15 minute ride?
