Carb cleaning and sync...
I rank myself as a pretty descent mechanic, but I haven't ever messed
with the carbs on a bike. I've always managed to avoided the darn things,
till now. Just did the voodoo thing with the carbs for the first time.
Didn't have any choice, though, all the signs pointed to the devious,
dasterdly things. So, did the research, got a Harmonizer electronic
vacume guage and did the tear-down. Took my time and muddled through.
Wow! It worked like it was supposed to. Power is back, no hesitation
anywhere in the band. Pulls stumps all the way through the ceiling.
That's so cool, I had to share it with somebody. None of the guys at work
are bikers, so I'm resorting to all of you folks for the 'peacock fluff'.
I am such a stud! lol

yeah ya just have to jump in the deep end sometimes ...... just be methodical
and detailed and all usually works out good ..... sure beats paying a shop to do
it and you always know for sure your own work is going to be a lot more thorough
since your own time is not at an hourly rate !
Nice going Ern .... good motivation for the rest of us

No way I was going to rush this one. Put the bike on the stand, tore it down.
If I wasn't absolutely in the mood to play, I just ignored the poor thing.
Been working 6 days a week on the RL job, so that carb over-haul took 2 weeks. lol
Spent more actual time taking everything else apart and putting it back together.
The carb cleaning was actually pretty easy. The crappiest part is getting a
screw-driver on the darn adjuster screws!! Why are the most important parts
buried deeper than Hoffa? lol
Still need to do the idle adjust and re-sync again. but I'm gonna have to get the
right-angle adjuster from pro-motion before I try that one.
Motion Pro - Carb Tool 90 Degree w/Bits or
Motion Pro - Pilot Screw Adj. Tool
Anyone tried these? The first looks like it would turn a whole lot smoother,
making it worth the cost, is what I'm thinking.
Total cost for the Harmonizer electronic sync and the wrench would be $200.
Still under the cost of paying someone to do it one time. If I keep the bike,
I'll be way ahead on the next tune-up.

By the way, here's a link to the Harmonizer Carb Sync tool that I used...
Harmonizer Vacuum Multi-Tool -- It ain't your Daddy's Twinmax - ADVrider
I gather that it's an independent that designed and is marketing them.
I was a little concerned ordering it, but it arrived 3 days after I placed my order.
So the guy is legit and it does everything he says it does. ;-)
