Bike won't start - troubleshooting help plz
Hi all,
I want to start by thanking everyone here, especially the people that write the how-to guides and those who help the rest of us wanna-be mechanics learn something.
I have a '00 CBR F4 that ran rough for the last two years. I put a fuel additive in the tank (don't remember which) and the bike continued to deteriorate. Then last fall I parked it with very little gas in the tank and let it sit over the winter. This year I figured that it needed some help so I gave it a little tune up. I rebuilt the carbs, replaced the plugs, drained the tank and put some fresh 92 in, then tried to start the bike. After a few tries it turned over, but ran very irratically. It would idle at about 1k, then bounce up to 2k, again and again. After a min or two I tried to give it a little throttle. It stalled and then wouldn't turn back over. I let it sit and then tried again the next day and it still wouldn't turn over. I then decided to replace the two smaller secondary air filters and fuel filter. When I was back in the bike I realized that I never hooked up my two water lines back up to the carbs. I was thinking this may have been the cause of my issue. I reconnected the lines, replaced the filters and then tried to start it, but still no luck. It cranks strong, but never wants to catch. I see faint wisps of white smoke out the exhaust while cranking but nothing major. I'm now at a loss as to what to check.
Do I have a blocked fuel line? A vacuum leak?
When I hooked the tank back up, I could hear some fluid noises, so it sounded like fuel gravity fed down into the carbs.
When I rebuilt the carbs I didn't replace the gaskets or orings.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
