Bike won't start in first gear

So, I just changed the hand grips and levers on my '06 F4i, and now my bike will start in neutral ONLY. I've tried to start it in first (with the kick stand up, and with the clutch engaged), but nothing doing. Can someone offer a suggestion?

That's weird. If you start it in neutral and shift into first does it stay running?

If you wanna start in first gear you need to have the kickstand up and clutch NOT engaged, meaning pull the clutch lever in, not out, it should start than. If it still doesnt start, when you start it in nuetral are the rpm's really high? If they are, the F4i has a switch that prevents the bike from being started if a lot of throttle is applied, so if you installed the handgrips incorrectly or with them pulling on the throttle cable, it may prevent you from starting the bike. I hope you know what I mean

did you unplug the wire going into the clutch perch?
that would cause exactly your problem
there is a sensor that prevents you from starting the bike in gear without the clutch in
