Default bike with attitude

well I have an issue with my 00 929 rr. I want it to run right and it doesnt want to. I changed the plugs,I have done this before with no problem. They are the right plugs they are gapped properly. Now the bike starts and idles at 1.5 then jumps to 3000 rpms then a red light flashes next to the Neutral light in the dash then the rpm's drop to 0.5 and will die spits and sputters. All this happens in the span of aboout 20 seconds.Any help here would be appreciated as I have just moved here I have no mechanic.

I don't think so. Just did oil change. Fresh oil and filter.

I'm not familar with all the indicators in the 929, check out an owners manual. It sounds like the oil light is coming on to me. On my F3, the red light that pops a sec or twoafter changing the oil is the oil pressure indicator. If this is the case, don't run the bike!!

i don't know if its your problem or not, but when you do an oil change if you don't fill the new oil filter up with oil b4 install it will cause the oil light to come on, but again my background is on mx bikes and quads very little street bike experience but my buddy has a cruiser and that happened he added a little oil and the light stayed off. don't think you have anythning in the tank do ya, maybe check the fuel filter or something

1st. you dont have to fill the new oil filter with oil, at least thats what the manual says.
2nd. the flashing red light is an indicator that tells you what wrong with codes, for instance three short flashings continued by a long flash. record the flash patter and do a search about faulty codes.

your probably right about the lights being a code but it can never hurt filling the filter with oilon whatever your workin on, if you think about all the oil that comes out when you remove the old one, it takes that much after you fill the case to circulate and fill the new one so then your oil would be a little lower after you ran the engine for a minute. but everybody does things there own way thats just my opinion [X(]

It was the map sensor that went bad. I replaced it and all is well.
