CBR 600 F2 1994 WHATS THE BIGGEST TIRE I CAN PUT ON THIS WITH OUT BIG MODS I JUST WANT THE BIG TIRE LOOK AND STABILITY CURRENT SIZE 160/60 R17 ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED THANKS

 

It wont matter how big of tire you put on there you are still going to get the same amount of tread on the ground as you do now.

If you do put a bigger tire on there, dont go to big or the chain will hit it and snap

 

The rim is only made for one size tire... you can't put a 180 or a 200 mm tire on a rim made for 160. If you make it fit, it will only make the tire taller in the middle, not wider and do more damage than good... well, they is no good from this. You will have to find out what size rim you can fit on your bike if you want to get a wider tire.

 

that is not true, i have a 180 rim and when i got the bike it had a 160 tire on it, i purchased a 190 tire and put it on the 180 rim the tire is noticably wider than the 160 that was on there, the general rule of thumb for this is that you can safely go one size up or down with no problems at all, i have even seen a 200 tire on a 180 rim

 

Don't forget, that the faster you go, the more the tire swells......

 

thanks for the help i just want something that has more meat and is a little more stable in a turn the size of the stock tire is some what an issue because all you f2 owners know that the tire on the back is itty bitty compared to some of the newer bikes and if you ever laid down a 160 mm tire in a turn there isnt much to work with well thanks for the help i think im going to go 10 mm wider and take the big goofy chain guard off and buy after market

 

I have a 92 f2 and have a 180/55 on it and it is fine. I wouldnt go any more than that because then you will be pinching the tire and it could fail if you lean in too much. As for " Wider is better", I had a 92 FZR with a 150 on it and that bike handled like a dream. Sorry to say but, better than my honda. I could throw that bike into a turn with no effort with that 150 rear tire.

Good link Don, I just read something similar in Cycleworld, I believe, and it's a big no-no to go with another size tire. The engineers at Honda or whatever used that rim size for a pretty good reason and like that link said, a lot of development goes into tire sizes for proper handling. Stick with the stock size.

 

I had an 89 Hurricane for 7 years and knew the only way i was getting the fat look was to make some fat bank and get a new bike...low and behold ..4k later and 100's of hrs of Overtime...i know have the ride ive always felt ive earned.I would say talk to the Stealer...get some advice and by all means make sure its safe.After readin the ride dead link...in sight and sound...just make the smarter choice....
