Default Bent Frame 2006 600RR

My son hit a car going 50 plus on his "06 600RR, bent the forks bad enough to push the wheel into the headpipe. Upon disassembly I noticed a difference in appearance between the left and right lower frame rails right behind the head tube. There are no other signs of cracks or stressed paint. Also I noticed that the right side upper frame mount allen bolt was inset about a half inch in the pinch clamp. Is it possible to bend this frame w/o cracking it? Any insight would be appreciated.

you can have it straighten, but it isnt cheap. But I would attempt it myself unless you have experience with cast aluminum.

I'd take the bike to a GMD Computrack shop and have them check out how bad it is, and give you an idea on what it'll cost vs. a new frame.

It is possible to bend the frame without cracking it. I agree with HR, take it a shop at the very least. most tweaked frames are not visible. The fact that you think you can see it means it could be pretty bad.

Either way, your looking at a very pricey fix here. New frames are not cheap and neither is getting them straigtened. thats why almost all insurance companies that deal with crashed bikes will total out a bike if it has any frame damage.

Just keep in mind, even if its straigtened, it will never be as strong again. the metal flexed both ways will weaken it. It may not be weakened enough to matter, but it will be weaker.

+1 to that. Also, if it is bent along any welds, itcould dramatically decrease the stregnth of those welds.

As a Dad with two sons riding, I'd look around for a replacement frame on e-Bay, and some forks.
I agree with all the comments above - bike will never be as good, and may be dangerous.

Someone was bound to say it...so why not me...why are you attempting to fix the bike out of pocket instead of going through insurance? Frame Damage = Totaled out 9/10 with insurance....
