I just installed a set of Michelin Pilot Road 2ct. They are a touring tire with softer edges (dual compound). I have read a lot of good things about them as far as life and riding goes. With the softer edges getting into the corners with them seems like it should not be an issue. I paid 305 for front and rear shipped to the door. Then I installed the tires myself and just took them to a shop to balance for $8/piece. I'm excited to get some riding in to see how the tires do because like you, I do a lot of freeway traveling and the center wears out quick. My last set was a set of power pilots and theyre great for cornering, the open road is a different story.

 

I bought dunlop roadsmart tires from bike bandit which was the best price I had found.
I took the wheels off myself and had the dealer mount and balance. I set the bike on the center stand, removed the rear then lifted the front off the ground and placed a cheap jackstand under the engine and removed the front; all done with simple hand tools and some in the bikes tool bag. The tires ride great for a great price. By the way I have a 96 1000f.
