Question Bad ECM???

Hello,

My question is what are the symptoms of a bad ECM, i bought a 1996 cbr600f3 from a buddy and it didn't run, he said it one day just died when he parked it and after that when he would try to start it, it would turn over, fire, then back fire and shoot a flame out the pipe and die, I've asked many people what would cause that and most everyone has said valves or carbs, Ive completely rebuilt the motor, top end and bottom end, replaced the carbs and rectifier, I'm starting the bike for the first time this coming weekend and just in case it doesn't run I'd like to be ahead of the game with a few suggestions. Any help or thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks-
Vincent

Usually an ecu will totally kill an isolated area, eg. spark, fuel pump, etc. I dont think it would have those symptoms, anybody have the same bike to switch out with. If so use yours in his bike, and if it will not start thats the prob. dont use his in yours. If something is frying it you may kill his.

Thanks for the input, I wish I could do that but nobody I know has an F3 unfortunately. But do you think bad valve or carbs could do that?

Yes,but i would think carbs rather than valves. Unfortunately it could be a million things. Not real familiar w/your bike, i have a 2002 f4i, very similar but different. Do you have the service manual, if not you can get one on line, that will help you with your problems. Is it possible one of the plug wires are in the wrong spot, really sounds like a spark issue, timing, something like that or fuel issue. Possibly flooding out which would make it pop and die, or to little fuel letting it run and then die. After it sits is it easier to start, then it acts up. In other words after it sits will it start up ok then die and not start, or will it just keep starting and keep stalling?
