Default Any other way to "scrub" tires?

Well before i order my new tires put em on and balance em i was wondering if there is another way to scrub tires besides riding on them. I'm already a noob just starting ride last season and don't need to crash because of fresh tires haha. Anything i can do like use fine sand paper or something?

Thank
Vic

you could, but that's not what breaks in a tire.

you need to put some heat into them. in first gear, go fast brake hard go fast brake hard. over and over.

isn't there some sort of oil on them or residue from storage that should be cleaned off?

I dont know if this would be the safest practice for a self described newb.

knightslugger is correct, you need to put some time and heat cycles in, in order to scrub in your tire. Just take it easy for the first 75-100 miles. Once you have gotten past the 100 mile mark, you should slowly start pushing it to your comfort level. Only use what tire YOU can use. Dont worry about the infamous "chicken stripes", those will go away with time.

Hard braking with fresh rubber is very dangerous. I have seen a few people drop their rides in the dealers parking lot after a fresh tire change. Good luck and keep the rubber side down.

Just stay within your comfort level. There is no need to push it.

Have you attended a MSF course yet? If not I would strongly advise it. The course will give you all the tools you need to start good habits on the road.

I always burnout new tires for about 5 seconds. Just until they start to smoke. Seems to work.
