Another no spark thread.

I've recently obtained an 02 F4i from a friend of mine. It has 17k miles on. The bike has been sitting for around 6 months so I did some routine maintenance to get it running. Changed oil, spark plugs, purged old fuel from tank and pump and put new fuel in it.

Unfortunately she doesn't turn over. I've had to run the bike off of jumper cables hooked to car(not running) in order to try and start her up since theres no juice in the battery. So far I've cover the following:

-Fuel pump primes
-No spark to plugs, but ignition coils get battery voltage when tested to the block
-Fuses look clean and have continuity

I've been referencing the service manual that is specific to my model, and reading around the forum and fingers seem to point at either the ecu/ecm? or the ignition pulse generator. i've tried testing connectors to the ecu but no luck getting voltages, although I'm not confident with my test points. This is my first bike, picked it up last Thursday, and have been playing around with it since. any ideas on how to diagnose the issue?

If there is no juice in the battery, thats the first place I would start. These bikes run off the battery and jumping a dead battery will not give the bike the enegery it needs to start. I'd look into replacing the battery before going any further. The downside here is the fact that with nemerous attempts to start without spark will probably have the plugs fouled.

You may also want to look into the pulse generator if your coils have power but are not firing.

You have no spark on all four cylinders? And ya, definitely use the specific battery for your bike.

Just put in a new maintenance free battery from batterymart.com and no luck. it turns nicely but isnt firing. I'm gonna open it up tomorrow to check for spark again.

Does any have instructions for testing the cam pulse sensor or ignition pulse generator. I had gotten an 18 blink code linked to the cam pulse sensor but I don't get it everytime. I dont own a peak voltage adapter nor do I want to invest in one being that its around $100+..

I ran my multimeter to VAC to the 2p connector (male and female side) of the cam pulse sensor and cranked it, both getting 0v, lowest setting is 200v tho..

Just an update for anyone who may run into this problem in the future. I followed up with the 18 blink code for a faulty cam pulse sensor, replaced it presto! It started right up no hesitation.
