Air/fuel mixture screw question
hey all, I have a 92 CBR600 and need a quick question answered. the factory setting for my carbs says turn the screws out 2 and 1/8 turns to start. When I do this the bike runs for crap, hesitates and stumbles on acceleration and pops upon deceleration. I changed all carbs to two turns out and now no hesitation on acceleration, but still get the popping on deceleration.
According to the manual, the popping is because of a lean condition. (exhaust doesn't smell rich at all, like it used to) If I adjust the screws in more, does that lean it out even more, or will that richen the mixture? Or, would I turn the out to richen the mixture? the original setup before I cleaned the carbs was 1.5, 2, 2, and 1.75 turns out respectively. Now they are all at 2.
I am getting a dealer to work on them for final adjustment but i need to be able to get a decent start so I can at least ride it down the highway to get there.

Turning the screws in will make it more lean. Turning them out, will make it richer. The really critical thing about trying to adjust and tune the carburetors is that they have to be really clean. And they need to be in sync with each other. If you want to take it another step further, the valves need to be adjusted properly as well. It's almost an all or nothing type of thing.

Thanks. the carbs were cleaned thoroughly and completely disassembled. Jets sprayed out and even the choke system was taken apart. The float and valve from cylinder #1 had to be replaced as it was constantly letting fuel flow into the engine and locking it up.
Knowing that counterclockwise is more fuel, i'll make sure the carbs are synched, then turn out a small touch and see if that gets me where I need to be in order to get on the highway. Thanks!
