I've been meaning to get a K&N filter for the bike. Only problem is that they're back ordered for months. At any rate I was wondering how many miles you guys usually put on the bike before swapping out old/new filter. I've got 4,200 miles on the bike now and haven't changed the air filter yet. Just wondering if I can wait for the K&N filter to be available or if I should put another stock filter in there. Thanks guys.

 

I replaced my stock item for the K&N at 8k the manual says 12K but it was filthy, and now i`ve got a K&N i`ll be cleaning it every 4k

I considered BMC. I ran into 2 issues though. First is I never found out if the BMC was rechargeable, and second I heard that the BMC allows a higher amount of dust/dirt particles to pass through. I know it's a better performer, but heard that if you're not going to be racing the bike it's not worth it.

 

BMC is washable like a K&N. There are 2 filters though -- race and street. The race filter is the one you'd have filtration problems with. I'm told the street version is comparable to a K&N.

 

Definately get the street version. I also called to make sure they had it. They also said I could use the K&N filter recharger kit since I have a K&N for my Tahoe.

 

I heard that most of the washable filters, including the K&N allow more dirt then an OEM filter. This study was done on cars and I don't remember where I saw it but it was a side by side comparison of an OEM filter against many rewashable ones and the OEM did the best.....Is it really worth the $70 or so for the K&N or similar????

 

Ahh, ok. I didnt know the BMC was rechargeable. Some bone head at kneedraggers.com told me the BMC was not rechargeable, he was trying to sell me one because they didnt have any K&N in stock for my bike. Thanks for the replies.
