Advice on new shock (f3/f4i/ohlins)

I've got an f3, and the shock is very worn, and just way to soft. I've been looking at replacing it, and I figure I should get something better than an original. I've heard lots of people are running f4i shocks, and they seem happy, and for around $50 it's a cheap replacement. But how different is a stock f4i shock from an f3 shock (performance wise)? I've also come across a beat up Ohlins shock for around $100, but I'll have to refresh and respring it, which will up the price considerably. But I would imagine it will be a better choice in the long run over a stock f4i shock.
The f3 isn't a track bike, but I plan to have it out by next spring in the novice class, cause I'm a newb
So if you guys can offer some advice about shocks I would appreciate it. Btw, I'm around 185lbs with gear.
