99 CBR 600 loose steering
i was reading on another forum that you can tighten the slotted bolts underneath the triple tree if the steering feels loose. there is no "play" so to speak, its just easier to turn the bars than it used to be. i looked down there at the bolts, but there are two and i dont wanna screw it up.

how do you know there's no play? you have to lift it from the triples to see if there's play in the steering stem.

RE: 99 CBR 600 loose steering
well theres no side/side front/back, ill go check by pulling up on it now

RE: 99 CBR 600 loose steering
no up/down play that i can detect

RE: 99 CBR 600 loose steering
the front end needs to be suspended for you to do this. is it suspended or are you just pulling on it?

RE: 99 CBR 600 loose steering
a good measure of holding the wheel and pulling it, i dont think play is the issue, just that those bolt(s) need to be tightened just a bit. there is no noise, no roughness, nothing to indicate the bearings are bad, it could be in my head but it feels noticeably more easy to turn the wheel and a little more prone to head shake

anybody?

RE: 99 CBR 600 loose steering
I would just tighten the triple tree nut, If you can take the front end off the ground and pull forward without the forks moving (besides with the bike) then its fine.

RE: 99 CBR 600 loose steering
so tighten that top nut?
|
RE: 99 CBR 600 loose steering
i don't think that top nut will do much mang...you can try but if the front end isn't wobbly or shaking then everything is more or less...'fine'.
you can try tightening it down but i don't think it'll make much of a difference. maybe you just got some added 'muscles' and strength all of a suddnen |
