Default 954rr starting issues

Hi, I posted this 2wks ago in the 954rr section but the forum seems dead there, if anyone could help me out with this issue I'd be grateful.

I noticed my bike was getting hard to start, from when I leave the house to get petrol for instance. Initially it'll start from cold no problem but if I switch off and then try to re-start it'll chug as if the battery is dying. So it seems it'lll start from cold no problem but then will immediately play up if switched off and re-started.

Battery checked out 100%, I ran diagnostic and it threw two fault codes:

cam pulse generator
IAT sensor

Anyone have any idea which is most likely to have caused this fault? It has a PC111 fitted and a Remus pipe, always smelt rich to me from when I bought it but even more so now. From what I know 954's do run a tad rich anyhow.

Today it wouldn't start at all straight after my commute home, cranked but wouldn't fire, I left it 30mins and it started. Another note to make, I turned down the PC to mid-way, it had previously been set two bars towards rich. I changed the plugs around 3mths ago, they looked normal as far as used plugs are supposed to look, also changed the air filter, there once absolute minimal touch of oil in the air box as per what is described as normal.

Start with investigating those two codes.

I'm wondering if they could be the culprit though (esp the IAT) or if I have another problem? The engine management light has never come on at all

Now my ignition is blowing the 10amp fuse! Is a loose wire at the fuel pump the likely cause of all this?

Is this forum usually so dead?!

Hi Dec111, hope this helps a little with the IAT, look at page 3-18 ,code 9 then go on to page 5-22, a problem with the voltage at sensor, could be a loose wire at the ECM.

your looking at the Green/Orange and Grey/Blue at the ECM

cheers man, would the fact that the 1amp igition/starter fuse indicate that the fuel pump may have a bad connection? Can the IAT and cam pulse generator fault contribute. A bit of trawling through Google indicates bad fuel pump wiring, I had been in there quite a lot doing plugs and air filter as well as wiring in a speedo corrector after going 15/45 sprockets, poss chafed or bared up a wire causing a short?

Need the flaming thing running by Fri!

You could bet your life that it's a loose/bad connector/ earth that's causing your problem, bout the only thing you can do at present is go thro the connectors testing for loose wires /bad earths, also check out the cam pulse gen, have you got a manual.

yeah, have a haynes mate, but can't make head nor tail of the wiring section! Bike had run fine despite the cam pulse generator and IAT codes coming up, the engine management light hasn't ever come on. One thing I noticed after that fuse blowing was the fact that my HISS red flash has started blinking again, it hadn't been for a good while which I found unusual also

Should I be checking all earth's, or will it just be specific earths relating to the igition stuff, you know the locations? Cheers

Hi , take it you live in the UK with having HISS, yes go for the earths affecting ignition first, check that the wires are correct at the ignition, IAT is the problem with the restart, could be sensor or just loose wire.
