Hey guys, I am new to the forum. I have a 93 CBR600f2 that has been sitting for around 20 years. The last ten of which were outside.
I am looking for some guidance on where to start and what to look for to get it back road worthy. Tires are dry rotted, old gas in the tank, guessing it needs all new brakes as well.
Aside from the fuel system issues (still working in getting the fuel cap off), what should I be ready to replace?
Bike has 37k original miles and I knew the original owner - bike was mint before some jagaloon put it outside. I will do most of the stuff over the summer but have a few local options for mechanics if I need to trailer it (which I will for tires). Really looking to keep the cost down as the bike doesnt appear to be worth very much. Would just be a fun weekend bike or an occasional commuter to work. Also not trying to be a cheap *** in lieu of safety. Thank you!
Not worth much, are you kidding me? That custom tank paint job alone is worth mega bucks!
Seriously, it looks like a great find. To those of us who like them, it's worth more than you'd think as it appears to be a solid, original bike. Well worth preserving
What he said for sure! Hi and welcome to the forum. Yes the tank is likely going to need a good cleaning out. The carburetors are going to need rebuilding if you want it to run at all. Full replacement of all O rings and gaskets. This is the most important thing if you want it to run reliably. Look forward to updates and progress... pictures too.
Re-build kit is in the mail and the carb is going to spend a few days soaking! Im pretty comfortable with the fuel system, its everything else I dont know what to be concerned with.

Brakes will need rebuilding, like master cylinder gaskets for front and rear. I'd also replace the brake caliper seals. Check the forks for any pitting. Might get lucky with some steel wool. Fork seals and fluid is probably in order too. How is the chain and sprockets. 37k miles is not a huge amount, but that doesn't indicate the condition of them since they would have most likely been replaced a few times over the years.
new engine oil and oil filter
clean the fuel tank and petcock
rebuild carbs
new air filter
rebuild brake system ( both front and rear )
flush the coolant and add new coolant
condition of the sprockets and drive chain
new tires
lube all the cables
grease steering head bearing ( replace if necessary )
new fork oil and seals
new battery
check the electrical system ( charging , all lights and switches etc )
