'89 CBR 600 Project
Found this near me. $80 later and it's in the garage
It's a bit of a mess but not seized. Wire harness is a little scary w/ added on connectors to Acewell digital dash. It's connected and was labeled but writing has worn off. I see diagrams online. Have forks, front wheel, rotors, 4-1 exhaust, seat, tank, some plastic. No rear shock. I doubt rear tire has 10 miles on it. Missing one of the throttle cables and carb slides don't move when throttle is twisted. Radiator bent and I believe seat frame is a little wacky. I see pretty clean oil at full level, clean air filter, carb pistons slide nice and smooth, have the key... Found a shop manual online but will prob. purchase one. I am charging a lawn and garden battery right now - before I hook it up, is there any harm in using this battery or a jump box to turn this engine over and see if I can get it to fire? OR should I go and get a proper battery? Any advice from any of you who has been here is very much appreciated. Image album |
Jeez some work to do there mate but why not try to get her running again ? A decent battery, a multimeter with the manuals wiring diagram (and a fire extinguisher) would be on my list.
Quite a project but no reason you can’t succeed. You might be better off getting a second donar bike and making the best of both. Best of luck mate. |
Thanks man. As my luck should have it, I hooked up a riding mower battery, turned the key and have hi-lo, blinkers, brake light. No neutral light when in N. Hit the start button and it turned over. Spray lubed thru carbs and exhaust and tried to fire w/ a squirt of 2 stroke gas and a touch of ether -

The project I have in mind is to use this engine in a crosskart type of vehicle, but not exactly. Is that a dirty word on this forum?
